When I was at my best...

When most people have to talk about when they were at their best, many people pick times that they were the best at something or won a big award. For me, it isn't that for me. There were many times that I felt like I was at my best by I was not necessarily at the top. However, there is one event that sticks out the most in my mind that I did happen to be at the top. As cheesy as this sounds, the time I was at my best was graduation. I had just complete thirteen years of school where I worked as hard as I could to get sufficient grades.  I had spent countless hours during my high school years alone to make sure I got that A on a test the next day.  All of that hard work paid off as I was able to give my graduation speech as the class valedictorian.  I had managed to graduate with a 4.00 GPA.

My senior year had been my hardest year.  I only had school half of a day because of my intern the second half of the day.  My classes in the morning were AP and college classes.  Those classes brought so much stress to my life as I tried to balance my extra-curricular activities with my school work.  There were many times that I didn’t think I was going to be able to keep my straight A’s but after a lot of hard work I was able to keep it.  Being the first person in my family to be able to graduate with a 4.00 GPA, I felt extremely proud and happy when I stood up at the podium during graduation to give my speech.  I had completed my biggest goal I had ever had and the result of that was handed to me a few minutes later in the form of my high school diploma.  I had accomplished so much in my school years that I had gained the confidence that I need now in college to face any other difficulties that come my way.

While I was at the top of my class, I didn’t have to be to feel like I was at my best that day.  I had just completed thirteen years of hard work.  I had completed my goal and it felt great making it as far as I did.  I had fought through many challenges along the way and had grown as an individual.  I had just successfully completed one stage of my life and was headed towards the next stage.  That next stage was college.

  2. Tracy I give you a big pat on the back for all of your accomplishments you have achieved in high school. You weren't one that was locked in her room all day studying too get that GPA, you worked hard outside the classroom. You spent day after day working your butt off! Easy to say from my end but a 4.0 is definitely not easy. Especially when your taking a crap ton of college courses, interning, and participating in extra-curricular activities. That had to be a lot of stress and you managed to pull through. Too not give up when you were drained and weak. Drained from all the demands imposed upon you from everyone. You by far made requirements for ISU and I believe that you will be one of those people that will go as far as you want in life, and are definitely going to be a person in top profession in your career whatever you choose to do. Once again great job on your achievements. Your story is one that is greatly admired on my end because of all the hard work you put into what you really wanted. Your one of the hardest working people I know.

  4. Tracy!!! I am very proud to hear that you attained a 4.0 in high school. That is an incredible accomplishment that takes complete dedication and a heart of gold. Just from class I can tell that you are a person who will go the extra mile to get a result. I have so much respect for people who can keep a GPA over 3.9 and for you to have a 4.0 is absolutely amazing. You seem like a person with a positive, can-do attitude who takes pride in their work. I admire people with this kind of attitude as I was the same way in school. Never say never and impossible is nothing seem to be two mottos you live by, much like myself. Keep working hard and great things will surely come your way :)

  5. Way to go Tracy! That's a great accomplishment. Keep working hard and stay ahead of your school work here and you can have similar success in college. Be careful to not put too much pressure on yourself. College is a whole new ball game and it may take a little time to adjust to a full schedule. If a bad grade happens it is ok and all of us here at the Hixson program are here to support you any way we can. Tutors available and study areas galore! You definitely have a great work ethic. Keep that up and you'll have no problem succeeding here at ISU!

  6. Wow! That's incredible! I'll admit that I wish I had been able to do the same as you but either way, the whole speech part of it would have been horrible for me. Way to go and I hope you accomplish everything you want to at Iowa State!

  7. Tracy,
That is so impressive that you could take the time to balance all of that and still have a social life. A 4.0 is something that you can be proud of and I'm sure that your family is proud of as well. Like other people have said, there is no doubt in my mind that if you apply yourself to your school work here, that you can be successful here at ISU. Keep up the hard work and always remember that you have people who are there supporting you.
